Wailing Souls-Fire House Rock (40th Anniversary)
Label: VP Records
Format: LP Gatefold

A touchstone LP from the beginning of reggae's post-Bob Marley era, Wailing Souls’ Fire House Rock was released by Greensleeves in 1981 to critical acclaim. The title track became Wailing Souls’ most popular song and its most streamed song in the digital era, still making all-time reggae ‘greatest hits' playlists.

While it was only the group’s third LP at the time of release, the Souls had built a solid reputation through more than a decade of recordings, including albums for Jamaica’s famed Studio One and Channel One.

With a settled and seasoned four-part harmony line-up of Winston Matthews, Bread McDonald, Garth Dennis, and Buddy Haye, the group was convinced to record for the top reggae hit-making producer of the era, Henry Junjo Lawes. Pairing the four singers with the Roots Radics band at Channel One studio during its golden era, the results were nothing less than the stuff of legend.

For the 40th anniversary, Sonicraft A2DX labs provided the first 24-bit transfer of the original 15 inches-per-second reel-to-reel master mixes, revealing new details in Scientist's original mix from King Tubby’s famed Waterhouse studio. This is Classic Reggae at its finest, pressed on 180g vinyl for the 40th anniversary.
