Incense and Peppermints marked one of psychedelia's rare moments at the top of the charts. The title track skyrocketed to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 later that year, while the album would reach #11 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Along with “Incense and Peppermints”, two other tracks from the album (“The World's on Fire”, and “Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow”) were featured in the motion picture Psych-Out, the 1968 counterculture-era psychedelic movie starring Jack Nicholson. The title track would also later appear in the film Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.
